Are you a Shelburne County youth between the ages of 17 and 21 who wants to make a difference?  If so go to the meeting at the Shelburne Community Centre (in the Ladies Auxiliary room) on Tuesday at 7pm for a meeting with Canada’s leading volunteer youth service organization, Katimavik.  This summer, volunteers between the ages of 17 and 21 from across the country would rotate through the community and live in a rented house under the supervision of a project leader.  Each group spends 3 months in the community and each youth will contribute a minimum of 35 hours a week as a full-time volunteer for not-for-profit organizations and will work on special projects for the benefit of the community. The Queens County Girls Choir has been selected to perform and compete at the 2012 Disney Sings event being held in Florida in March.  This will be an amazing experience and a prestigious honour for the young performers but they need our help to make this opportunity a reality.  The estimated cost is around $60,000 and the Queens County Girls Choir is looking for financial assistance from local businesses, community groups, family and friends.  For more information and / or make a donation call 354-3296.

The RCMP are offering Seniors' Police Academy to all seniors age 55 and older at the East Chester Recreation Hall.  This FREE 7 week course starts on Thursday, April 5 and goes from 1 - 3:30pm.  Topics covered will include identity theft, wills and power of attorney, self defense, emergency health services and more!  Seating is limited.  Call 624-0318 to register.

There's an opening for cornet players with the Chester Brass Band.  Musicians with an interest in playing exciting and challenging music who are at a high-school level or better can contact George Morrison at 835-7653.  Rehearsals are on Monday evenings and the repertoire includes arrangements of classical, modern and popular works, original music for brass band, along with marches and hymns. The band performs in concert halls, theatres, schools, churches, parks and other community venues, frequently with guest choirs, and vocal and instrumental soloists of distinction.
