A fundraiser to get a local man cancer treatment abroad is nearing its goal.
Supporters are hoping to raise $100,000 to get Brad Quarrie to the United States to undergo a unique treatment which would encourage Quarrie's own cells to create a vaccine against the cancer.
A GoFundMe page has totalled almost $72,000 in donations so far.
A brunch including a raffle and 50/50 draw is being held this weekend to help raise the rest.
One of the organizers, Martin Walton says the community has really gotten behind their efforts.
"We reached out to a lot of local businesses here in Lunenburg and we were just overwhelmed with the response and some of the prizes that we got."
Walton says they're trying to get Quarrie the help he needs.
"No, it's not available in Canada right now. It's originally from Germany and one of the developer's sons moved to California and it's available in California."
The brunch will be held at the Lunenburg & District Fire department from 11:00am to 1:00pm this Sunday.
Walton says tickets are available in advance at Kinley's Drug Store on Lincoln Street.
